Anesha Dexter BIOGRAPHY

 

Conn-Selmer, Inc. Artist, Anesha Dexter is a versatile musician and educator. She is an instructor of flute, clarinet, saxophone, and music appreciation at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, as well as a flute instructor at the University of Central Arkansas’s Community School of Music. Anesha is also a piccoloist with the Little Rock Wind Symphony. Dexter received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Arkansas Tech University. There, she won the Concerto Competition and performed Charles T. Griffes’s, Poem, with the Arkansas Tech University Wind Symphony. As a Full Fellowship recipient, Anesha completed her Master’s Degree in Flute Performance from the University of Arkansas. She won First Prize in the departmental Concerto-Aria Competition, which resulted in a performance of Lukas Foss’s Renaissance Concerto with the University Symphony Orchestra. She was also selected to perform in the music department’s Honor Recitals, "The Best of the Best" for two consecutive years.

 From 2006 to 2007, Dexter was one of six students selected internationally to study in the United Kingdom with Trevor Wye, and she attended the Royal Academy of Music for master classes with William Bennett.  As a recipient of numerous awards and top honors, Dexter was recently a semi-finalist in both the Myrna W. Brown and William C. Byrd Young Artist Competitions. Anesha was invited to become a member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. She is also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, the National Flute Association, and is an honorary member of the Hot Springs Flute Ensemble. 

An active flutist, Ms. Dexter has performed in recitals, master classes, and music festivals throughout the United States, Canada, England, and Switzerland. In both 2001 and 2002, she attended the International Master Class in Switzerland with Marina Piccinini, and the Oxford Flute Summer School in Oxford, England, which featured Michel Debost, and numerous other world-renowned musicians. Additionally, in 2002 she attended Domain Forget in Canada, with guest artists Emmanuel Pahud and Mathieu Dufour.

Committed to music education, Anesha has studied at the Orchestral Flute Institute, and at William Bennett International Flute Summer School (US). Dexter has attended festivals, and workshops for the flute, including the Anatomy of Sound Workshop where she performed for Alexa Still, and Amy Porter. Additional opportunities have allowed her to perform for Jeanne Baxtresser, Bonita Boyd, Jeffrey Kahner, Fenwick Smith, Jim Walker, Wissam Bousstany, Susan Milan, and Claire Southworth. As an orchestral flutist, Dexter has performed with Ft. Smith Symphony Orchestra, Wildwood Music Festival, Conway Civic Orchestra, and the Arkansas Repertory Theatre.

Ms. Dexter continues to emerge as a highly gifted musical professional. Her skill reaches far beyond her musical talents, to the depths of the understanding and knowledge she possesses in her craft.  A skilled musician, instructor, and radio personality, in 2007, Dexter was a featured host and co-producer for Izzy Investigates, which airs on KLRE Classical 90.5. Most recently, Anesha made an artist appearance at the Mid-West Conference in Chicago, Illinois and the NAMM show in Anaheim, California for Conn-Selmer, Inc. Avanti flutes.
