Anesha Dexter is a flutist, educator, and coach who performs on both the modern and baroque flute. As a performer, she has appeared on stages across North America and Europe as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer.
Dr. Dexter earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in flute performance from the University of Kansas. She holds degrees from Arkansas Tech University (BA), the University of Arkansas (MM), and the Royal Academy of Music in London (MA, LRAM), where she studied with flutists William “Wibb” Bennett OBE and Lisa Beznosiuk. She also studied at the Flute Studio of Trevor Wye in England and has been mentored in masterclasses and lessons by artists such as Marina Piccinini, Michel Debost, and Sam Coles.
As a performer, Anesha has appeared in solo, chamber, and ensemble settings in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, and Canada, including performances at venues such as Wigmore Hall and Covent Garden. Her collaborations have included modern and early music ensembles, choirs, and vocalists, including appearances with the Royal Academy of Music Baroque Soloists. She has also performed concerti with the University of Arkansas Symphony, the Arkansas Tech Wind Ensemble, and the University of Kansas Flute Ensemble.
A dedicated educator, Anesha has taught flute at the University of Kansas and flute, clarinet, saxophone, and music appreciation at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. She also served as a teaching artist in residence at the University of Central Arkansas Community School of Music and continues to maintain a private and online studio.
While living in London, she contributed to outreach programs through the Royal Academy’s Open Academy initiative, performing and facilitating interactive music education experiences through projects such as the Wigmore Hall Menuhin Project and BBC Ten Pieces.
In addition to her work as a performer and educator, Anesha serves as a music and life coach and is a former radio personality. She was co-producer and host for Izzy Investigates on KLRE Classical 90.5 in Arkansas and has appeared as a featured artist at events including the Midwest Clinic in Chicago and the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California.
She performs on a silver Haynes flute with a David Wimberly headjoint and a boxwood Beukers model baroque flute by Simon Polak.
